Opera Can Be Fun!

Our mission is simple! Star of Love introduces young people to the classic disciplines of voice, instrument, dance, acting, painting, and storytelling - Opera!

Star of Love is the first of several operas Lou Bunk and Steven Kveton are creating to introduce opera and the classical arts to young audiences.

Lou is a composer and his works have been performed in Europe and North America. He holds a Masters in Music Composition and Theory from Washington University in Saint Louis and his PhD from Brandies University in Boston. Lou is currently assistant professor of music at Franklin Pierce University. Steven is a free-lance writer from Saint Louis and the author of several children’s books including the Legend of Fredbird™, written for the Saint Louis Cardinals Baseball Team.

In September of 2005, Mr. Robin Weatherall (composer and former member of the London Symphony Orchestra) conducted a cast of fourteen singers and twenty-eight musicians at the Union Avenue Christian Church in Saint Louis for the first recording of Star of Love. After only two orchestral rehearsals, two choral rehearsals, and a sitzprobe (first rehearsal with singers and orchestra), the complete opera was recorded in two three-hour sessions. The purpose of this recording was twofold: to produce a final performance score by testing staging, storyline, and orchestral theories and to record the music for promotional purposes.

In addition to an expanded web site, Star of Love will be introduced via picture-storybook with an accompanying CD. The recording will feature Mr. Weatherall as the host of a live radio program called “Saturday Night at the Opera”. During these broadcasts from fictional opera houses around the world, audiences will hear the performance and explore the evolution of opera during the “intermission” dialogue. The first stop on our tour is the historic Pasta Opera House in Pimento, Italy for a performance of Luigi Bunkerinni’s masterpiece, Star of Love.
